Royal Shakespeare Co. prod'n runs from May 13

Patrick Stewart will return to the Royal Shakespeare Company to play Shylock in “The Merchant of Venice” from May 13-Sept. 26, with a May 19 opening.

Casting for the production, helmed by Rupert Goold (“Enron”), springs from a stalled Las Vegas-set film adaptation that Stewart was to star in and produce from a screenplay by John Logan (“The Aviator,” “Hugo Cabret,” “Red”).

Stewart previously starred in Goold’s RSC production of “The Tempest” and his “Macbeth” at Chichester’s Festival Theater, which transferred to Gotham.
