Actress to star in next MCC show
Joely Richardson has signed on to appear in the world preem of Michael Weller play “Side Effects” in an Off Broadway production from MCC Theater.
Cotter Smith (“Kin,” “Next Fall”) also is cast in the two-hander about a politician’s crumbling marriage; the storyline is loosely related to Weller’s play “Fifty Words,” produced by MCC in 2008. David Auburn, whose work as a playwright includes Pulitzer Prize winner “Proof,” helms.
Richardson, who has a number of London legit credits, most recently appeared Off Broadway in “Madame Melville” in 2001.
MCC’s current offering, Sharr White’s “The Other Place,” starring Laurie Metcalf, ends its extended run May 1. “Side Effects” kicks off previews June 2 ahead of a June 19 opening.
