A new production of “Timon of Athens” will kick off a new, Shakespeare-oriented offshoot of the Public Theater’s new-work series, the Public Lab.
Richard Thomas, last on Broadway in “Race,” toplines a staging helmed by Barry Edelstein, head of the Public’s Shakespeare Initiative program.
Public Lab Shakespeare outings will, like other Public Lab productions, consist of smaller-scale productions at lower ticket prices. Also on the Public Lab slate are new plays including Mona Mansour’s “Urge for Going” and Jonathan Marc Sherman’s “Knickerbocker.”
Past Lab offerings include tuner “Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson,” the success of which at the Public snowballed into a recent Broadway run.
“Timon” begins previews Feb. 15 ahead of March 1 opening.
