Broadway tuner announces plans for U.S. tour
Broadway tuner “Priscilla Queen of Desert” is taking advantage of its awards momentum to announce a U.S. touring production, due to hit the road in fall 2012.
Based on the 1994 movie about a trio of drag queens on a road trip in the Australian outback, “Priscilla” has recently been tapped for top tuner noms for Gotham legit awards from the Drama League, the Drama Desk and the Outer Critics Circle. The Tony noms will be announced on Tuesday.
Earlier incarnations of the show have already been hits in Oz, London and Toronto. Since opening on the Rialto in March, box office for the tuner has hovered in the high-$900,000 range week-to-week, cracking the $1 million mark once.
Itinerary for the road version remains to be determined.
