Jon Robin Baitz has moved back and forth between stage work and Hollywood gigs for several years now — but with the Broadway opening at the Booth of his play “Other Desert Cities,” he looks to be back in the legit world to stay.
At the show’s after-party at the Marriott Marquis, the writer, always a straight-shooter in interviews, was upfront about the genesis of his play, which portrays a troubled political family. Baitz was inspired in part by his acrimonious breakup with “Brothers and Sisters,” the ABC skein he created, and some of the “bridge-burning” writing he did in the aftermath.
Up next: He’s working on a new play.
“I’m back. Thank God. It would be churlish to walk away now,” he said. “Of course, the minute you’re back here, the thing you want to go right back to is Hollywood. But right now for me, that couldn’t be further from the truth.”
