First deadline set for January

The National Alliance for Musical Theater has put out the call for submissions for its 24th annual Festival of New Musicals, the industry showcase that has yielded tuners including Broadway alums “The Drowsy Chaperone” and “Thoroughly Modern Millie.”

Latest edition of the festival will be the first complete cycle of submissions and selections overseen by new exec director Betsy King Militello, who took the reins of the org over the summer.

As usual, the two-day fest, which produces 45-minute excerpts of eight selected musicals, is skedded for the fall, although in 2012 another tuner event that usually coincides with NAMT’s fest, the New York Musical Theater Festival, has been pushed up to a summer slot.

NAMT has skedded a couple of Q&A sessions ahead of a Jan. 19 deadline for materials from legit pros and agents who aren’t members of NAMT. Members can submit materials until Feb. 23.
