Irons goes to ‘Camelot’

Actor to star in one-night concert

Jeremy Irons has signed on to topline the Irish Repertory Theater’s one-night concert staging of tuner “Camelot.”

Thesp will star as King Arthur in the musical, which plays the Main Stem’s Shubert Theater as part of a gala benefit for Off Broadway troupe Irish Rep. Melissa Errico and James Barbour also are set to appear in the concert helmed by Irish Rep a.d. Charlotte Moore.

The trio of thesps previously appeared together in a 2005 Hollywood Bowl staging of the 1960 musical by Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe. Gordon Hunt directed that earlier production.

Most recent Broadway stint for Irons was in the short-lived 2009 play “Impressionism.”

Irish Rep benefit will play the Shubert on June 6, a night when the venue’s current tenant, “Memphis,” is dark.
