Actor to play Lector in musical spoof
David Garrison has signed on to play Hannibal Lecter in the latest run of “Silence! The Musical,” the “Silence of the Lambs” spoof launching a new Off Broadway incarnation later this month.
Garrison (“Married… With Children,” “Wicked”) joins a cast that includes Jenn Harris, Stephen Bienskie and Diedre Goodwin, who all appeared in an Off Broadway run of the show earlier this year. Garrison steps in for Brent Barrett, who played Lecter the last time around.
“Silence!” has proved one of the rare Off Broadway outings popular enough to expand its sked. The earlier run at Theater 80 played only four perfs a week, whereas the new stint bumps up to a full eight shows per frame for an open-ended engagement at the 9th Space Theater, part of downtown venue PS 122.
Show has a book by Hunter Bell (“[title of show]”) and songs by Jon and Al Kaplan. Christopher Gattelli, whose Broadway choreography work includes “South Pacific” and the upcoming “Godspell,” helms and choreographs.
Tuner parody began life at the New York Fringe Festival in 2005 and also did a stint in London before returning to Gotham. Show is produced Off Broadway by Victoria Lang, Rich Affanato and Donna Trinkoff.
