Garofalo goes Off Broadway

Actress to star in 'Russian Transport'

Janeane Garofalo is among the thesps signed on to appear in “Russian Transport,” the upcoming world preem from Off Broadway troupe the New Group.

Garofalo plays the mother of the family that is the center of “Transport,” Erika Sheffer’s play about a family of Russian-Jewish immigrants in Brooklyn and the mysterious uncle who comes to visit them from the motherland.

Daniel Oreskes, Morgan Spector (“A View From the Bridge”), Sarah Steele (“Speech and Debate”) and Raviv Ullman (“Phil of the Future”) also appear in the show, which will be helmed by New Group a.d. Scott Elliott.

“Russian Transport” begins previews Jan. 17 ahead of a Jan. 30 opening at the multistage midtown venue Theater Row.

Current New Group outing “Burning” runs through Dec. 17, with the third show on its season slate, David Rabe preem “An Early History of Fire,” opening later in the spring.
