The ASCAP Foundation has teamed with DreamWorks Animation for its latest round of stage tuner workshops in L.A., setting five February dates for the newly rechristened ASCAP Foundation/DreamWorks Musical Theater Workshop.
The annual program, for which composer Stephen Schwartz (“Wicked”) serves as a.d., showcases excerpts of new musicals from promising up-and-comers. The tuner development initiative, which reps a good way for industry types to keep an eye on talent prospects, has been aligned with Disney in previous years.
The sessions skedded for this year will see selected new works performed in 50-minute excerpts for an industry panel of pros that will give feedback to the creatives. Lynn Ahrens, Stephen Flaherty, Sheldon Harnick and Rupert Holmes are among the songsmiths who have served on prior panels.
The latest round of workshops will play five dates between Feb. 9 and Feb. 22 at the DreamWorks Animation Campus in Glendale. Details for the annual New York iteration of the workshop, not currently affiliated with DWA, remain to be set.
