Thesp Hugh Dancy has signed on to co-star in Manhattan Theater Club’s upcoming Broadway bow of comedy “Venus in Fur,” appearing alongside Nina Arianda.
Dancy steps into a role that was played by Wes Bentley in the 2010 Off Broadway incarnation of “Venus.” That earlier production from Classic Stage Company proved a breakout for Arianda, who went on to star in the Rialto revival of “Born Yesterday” last season.
Dancy’s legit credits in New York include the 2010 Off Broadway staging of “The Pride” and the 2007 Main Stem revival of “Journey’s End.” His screen work includes roles in upcoming releases “My Idiot Brother,” “Martha Marcy May Marlene” and “Hysteria.”
In “Venus,” a comic two-hander by David Ives, Darcy will play a director helming a stage version of a famous erotic novel, with Arianda cast as a tenacious actress auditioning for the lead. Walter Bobbie (“Chicago”), who directed the CSC version of the play, returns to helm the MTC production.
“Venus” begins previews Oct. 13 ahead of a Nov. 8 opening at MTC’s Samuel J. Friedman’s Theater.
