Pierce to direct George Street premiere
Tyne Daly will star in a world preem tuner helmed by David Hyde Pierce at George Street Playhouse, the regional theater in New Brunswick, N.J.Wedding comedy “It Shoulda Been You” — with Jewish bride, Catholic groom, formidable mothers-in-law and the unexpected arrival of an ex-boyfriend — is penned by book-writer and lyricist Brian Hargrove (whose TV credits include “Titus” and “Caroline in the City”) and composer Barbara Anselmi. George Street produces the tuner in association with commercial legit producer Scott Landis (“La Bete”) and TV producer Michael Hanel (“Titus,” “Reba”). Show begins previews Oct. 4 ahead of an Oct. 14 opening. Also on the season slate is new yuletide spoof “The Nutty Nutcracker Musical.” It’s from “Forbidden Broadway” creator Gerard Alessandrini and Peter Brash. David Saint helms the holiday run of the show’s world preem. A local staging of play “Red” is also on the bill, along with two more offerings that remain to be announced.
