‘Clear Day’ for Kudisch

Actor subs for Connick in lab staging

Marc Kudisch will topline the weeklong developmental session of Broadway-bound revival “On a Clear Day You Can See Forever” at Off Broadway’s Vineyard Theater.

Kudisch (“9 to 5”) takes on the role that Harry Connick Jr. will step into on the Main Stem. With further Rialto casting still to be locked, the development lab’s cast also includes Heather Ayers, David Turner, Sarah Stiles and Lori Wilner.

The Vineyard Theater had initially been the target destination of the reimagined tuner, but the plan shifted when Connick became attached to the project.

New version of the musical reworks the 1965 reincarnation-themed tuner by Alan Jay Lerner and Burton Lane. (It was adapted into a film starring Barbra Streisand.) Director Michael Mayer (“American Idiot”) reconceived the story, while scribe Peter Parnell (“The Cider House Rules”) pens a new book.

This incarnation of “On a Clear Day” had an earlier workshop at the Vineyard in 2009 and also played a 2010 stint as part of New York Stage and Film and Vassar’s Powerhouse Theater.

The “On a Clear Day” lab, which runs July 25-30, will be open only to members of the Off Broadway company. Broadway production begins perfs at the St. James Theater in November.
