Michael Cerveris will join Elena Roger and Ricky Martin in the upcoming Broadway revival of “Evita,” set to play the Marquis Theater in the spring.
Cerveris, most recently on the Main Stem in “In the Next Room, or the Vibrator Play,” will appear as Argentine president Juan Peron in the tuner, which centers on Peron’s wife Eva (Roger). Martin plays the narrator, Che.
“Evita” will follow the current revival of “Follies” into the Marquis, where “Follies” is currently skedded to run through Jan. 1.
The new staging of the 1978 Andrew Lloyd Webber-Tim Rice tuner was originally mounted, in an earlier version, by helmer Michael Grandage in London in 2006. Roger also starred in that initial incarnation. New production will include “You Must Love Me,” the Oscar-winning tune Lloyd Webber and Rice wrote for the 1996 Madonna film. Hal Luftig and Scott Sanders produce “Evita,” which hasn’t set dates.
