Block, Olivo, Breaker meet ‘Vera Stark’

Cast signs up for new Nottage play at Second Stage

Stephanie J. Block (“9 to 5”), Karen Olivo (“West Side Story”) and Daniel Breaker (“Shrek the Musical”) have joined the cast of “By the Way, Meet Vera Stark,” the latest play by Lynn Nottage.

Kimberly Hebert Gregory and Kevin Isola also have signed on to the show, getting its world premiere at Off Broadway’s Second Stage Theater. Jo Bonney helms.

Comedy, Nottage’s latest following the Gotham success of awards-magnet drama “Ruined,” looks at Hollywood’s race stereotypes through the prism of 1930s screwball films. Title character, a black maid and actress, remains to be cast.

Creative teams include Neil Patel (sets), David Weiner (lights), E. Sosa (costumes) and John Gromada (sound).

“Vera Stark” begins previws April 6 ahead of a May 9 opening.
