Back with a new ‘Twist’

“It’s a sign of a remarkable comeback for us,” said Pasadena Playhouse’s Sheldon Epps.

Saturday’s party at AKA marked the opening of the new tuner “Twist,” as well as the theater’s grand return after filing for bankruptcy last year.

Helmer Debbie Allen partied with her daughter, Vivian Nixon, who plays Josephine Baker in the show. It wasn’t easy getting Nixon for the show.

As Allen recalled, “Maurice Hines told me that he needed Vivian to play Josephine Baker in a show he’s doing. And I said, ‘Move your production. I need Vivian.’ ”

Momma won that argument.
