Zurich gives Penn Golden Icon award

Retrospective will screen pics including 'Milk,' 'Mystic River'

Sean Penn will receive a Golden Icon Award at this year’s Zurich Film Festival.

Fest, which runs Sept. 22-Oct. 2, will bestow the kudo Sept. 28 during a ceremony honoring the thesp’s achievements, including his most recent directorial effort, “Into the Wild.” Fest organizers will also put together a retrospective with segments from pics including “At Close Range,” “Dead Man Walking,” “Sweet and Lowdown,” “Mystic River” and “Milk.”

Established in 2008, the Golden Icon award has previously been awarded to Sylvester Stallone (2008), Morgan Freeman (2009) and Michael Douglas (2010).Penn most recently appeared in Terrence Malick’s “The Tree of Life” and Paolo Sorrentino’s first English-lingo production, “This Must Be the Place,” the latter set for release in December. The actor has also made headlines as of late for his humanitarian work, which took him to Haiti to help with relief efforts after last year’s earthquake.
