Zack Snyder to direct ‘Photograph’

Helmer has been developing story for past four years

Zack Snyder is planning to direct “The Last Photograph,” the Afghanistan-set story that he’s been developing for the past four years.

The director’s currently in production on Warner Bros.’ “Man of Steel,” which has a June 2013 release date.

Snyder originated the idea for “The Last Photograph” in 2007 with a story revolving around a photograph that becomes the catalyst for a journey two men undertake through war-torn Afghanistan. Project was set up by reuniting the “300” team of Snyder, screenwriter Kurt Johnstad and production company Hollywood Gang as a potential directing vehicle for Snyder (Daily Variety, Oct. 12, 2007). Dark Castle is financing the pic with Joel Silver and Andrew Rona producing.

Hollywood Gang’s Gianni Nunnari is also producing with Snyder and his Cruel and Unusual Films partner Deborah Snyder. Sean Penn and Christian Bale have been attached to “The Last Photograph.” first reported Snyder taking on the directing assignment.

Snyder’s repped by CAA.
