PARIS — Australian thesp Xavier Samuel (“Eclipse”) has joined the cast of “Drift,” a surfing drama toplining Sam Worthington (“Avatar”) and Myles Pollard (“Wolverine”).
TF1 Intl. has acquired the film’s international sales rights and its distribution arm, UGC, will handle the Gallic bow.
“Swift” has already been nabbed for Australia (Hopscotch), Portugal (Lusomundo), Indonesia (PT Amero) and Russia (Top Film).
Set in Western Australia in the early seventies, “Drift” centers on two brothers who open a surf-wear store and eventually build an empire. Pic explores the ins and outs of the surfing world, as well as its commercialization, through the tale of these two brothers.
The $11.3 million pic will be co-helmed by Morgan O’Neill, who penned the script, and Ben Nott.
Tim Duffy (“Let’s Talk About Sex”), Pollard’s shingle, World Wide Mind Films, and Michele Bennett’s Cherub Pictures (“Chopper”) are producing.
Delivery is skedded for 2012, with lensing set to kick off on Aug. 1 in the Margaret River region of Western Australia.
Samuel recently wrapped the shoot of Roland Emmerich’s period political thriller “Anonymous,” in which he plays Henry Wriothesley.
