Shingle gets U.S. rights to pic
Wolfe Video has nabbed U.S. rights to writer-director Alan Brown’s “Private Romeo,” with plans to release the film theatrically this fall, followed by a DVD and video-on-demand rollout in 2012.
“Private Romeo,” which screened at this year’s Outfest, takes a gay approach to “Romeo and Juliet,” portraying a group of boys from rival military high schools. Pic incorporates original Shakespeare text, as well as YouTube videos and lip-synced indie rock music.
Seth Numrich (TV’s “Gravity”) and Matt Doyle (“Gossip Girl”) star as the star-crossed lovers.
“In addition to addressing such topical subjects as bullying, it’s also a tender love story,” said Wolfe prexy Maria Lynn.
Wolfe recently handled domestic distribution for Peru’s 2010 Oscar submission “Undertow” and gay-themed drama “A Marine Story.”
