William Fichtner is in final negotiations to re-team with his “Contact” co-star Jodie Foster in Neill Blomkamp’s sci-fi epic “Elysium.”
Additionally, Fichtner is about to close a deal to star in Quentin Dupieux’s indie comedy “Wrong,” which is the helmer’s follow-up to last year’s Cannes entry “Rubber.”
Sony is set to distribute MRC’s “Elysium,” which also stars Matt Damon, Brazilian thesp Wagner Moura and Blomkamp’s “District 9” hero Sharlto Copley.
Plot details remain scarce, though the futuristic story is said to be in the same social-allegory vein as “District 9” but on a much bigger scale.
Bill Block and Simon Kinberg are producing the pic, which is scheduled to start production in July, with Sony set to release the film on March 8, 2013.
While Fichtner’s role remains unclear, thesp is known as one of Hollywood’s more prolific character actors. He most recently starred opposite Nicolas Cage in “Drive Angry 3D,” and prior to that, appeared in “The Dark Knight” and “Date Night.” The “Prison Break” veteran also has a recurring role on HBO’s “Entourage” as a powerful producer.
Fichtner is repped by Paradigm and manager David Guillod.
