Pic to be a re-imagining of 'Dracula'
Warner Bros. has launched development of “Harker” as a re-imagining of “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” and set up the project with Warner-based Appian Way and Mad Hatter Entertainment.
Studio’s acquired a script by Lee Shipman & Brian McGreevy and attached Jaume Collet-Serra to direct.
Appian Way partners Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson Killoran and Mad Hatter’s Michael Connolly will produce.
Story will center on Jonathan Harker as a Scotland Yard detective on the trail of Dracula. In Stoker’s original 1897 novel, the Harker character is an estate agent dispatched to meet with Count Dracula in Transylvania, only to discover that he’s been made a prisoner by his host, who’s revealed as a vampire.
Collet-Serra’s directed three pics for Warner Bros. — “House of Wax,” “Orphan” and the upcoming “Unknown,” starring Liam Neeson.
Shipman and McGreevy are also scripting “Pendragon” for New Regency. McGreevy recently sold vampire thriller “Hemlock Grove” to Farrar, Straus and Giroux.
The writers are repped by Paradigm and Mad Hatter.
