Wong Ching Po nabs directing award for 'Revenge'

KARLOVY VARY, Czech Rep. — Spanish filmmaker Alberto Morais walked away with the top prize, the Golden George, for “The Waves” at the closing late Saturday of the 33rd Moscow Intl. Film Festival.

The film also picked up best actor kudos for Carlos Alvarez-Novoa.

Best director was Hong Kong’s Wong Ching Po for “Revenge: A Love Story,” and there was a special jury prize for Russian director Sergei Loban’s “Chapiteau Show” — a musical comedy shot in four parts.

Best actress went to Poland’s Urszula Grabowska for her title role in Feliks Falk’s wartime drama “Joanna.”

British thesp Helen Mirren was at Moscow’s Pushkin cinema to collect the fest’s annual Stanislavsky achievement award for actors who subscribe to the Method school of acting.
