Clint Eastwood pic stars Leonardo DiCaprio
Warner Bros. has set a Nov. 9 opening for “J. Edgar,” Clint Eastwood’s Leonardo DiCaprio starrer.
Studio announced Wednesday that it will open the biopic in limited release Nov. 9 — a Wednesday — and then go wider two days later.
“J.Edgar” cast includes Naomi Watts, Ed Westwick, Damon Herriman, Armie Hammer, Ken Howard and Josh Lucas. Producers are Brian Grazer and Ron Howard via Imagine Entertainment along with Eastwood and Rob Lorenz through their Warner-based Malpaso banner.
Hoover was appointed director of the Bureau of Investigation in 1924 and was named head of the FBI when it was founded 11 years later. He remained director until his death in 1972 and came under attack late in his tenure for using the FBI to harass political activists and keeping secret files on leaders.
Warners also dated post-9/11 drama “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close,” starring Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock, in limited markets on Christmas with an expansion to a wide release on Jan. 20. Stephen Daldry directed the story of a boy convinced that his father (Hanks), who died in the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center, has left a final message hidden somewhere in the city.
Studio also has moved “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” back two weeks to Feb. 10 from Jan. 27 and set a Nov. 21, 2012 opening for Alfonso Cuaron’s outer-space adventure “Gravity 3D,” starring Bullock and George Clooney.
