Davide Manuli to direct Italian film

Vincent Gallo will star in Italo helmer Davide Manuli’s “The Legend of Kaspar Hauser,” an adaptation of the 19th century Teutonic foundling story transposed to Sardinia.

Gallo will play two roles in the six-hander: The Pusher, for which he will speak Italian, and the Sheriff, for which he will speak English.

Bruno Tribbioli and Alessandro Bonifazi’s Rome-based Blue Film is producing the black-and-white pic in collaboration with Manuli’s Shooting Hope. Italo state film entity Cinecitta-Luce will distribute in Italy.

Shooting is scheduled to start May 2 on Sardinia’s Sinin penisula, a marine preserve on the Italo island. Completion is expected in October.

Rounding out the cast are Italo A-lister Claudia Gerini (“The Passion of the Christ”), who will play the Duchess; Fabrizio Gifuni (“The Best of Youth”), who will play the Priest; supermodel-turned thesp Elisa Sednaoui, who will play the Psychic; and young Italo stage actress Silvia Calderoni, who will play an androgynous Kaspar Hauser.
