Media brand aims to expand internationally
Vice Media has struck up investment partnerships with MTV founder Tom Freston, advertising-marketing company WPP and investment firm the Raine Group, while aligning with WME as a strategic partner.
Aim is for Vice brand and content to expand internationally, including markets in Brazil, China, India and South Korea, while growing its network of studios and creatives to be tapped for production and distribution.
Planned expansion will also boost Vice’s news and sports divisions, upping its youth-targeted coverage of international stories.
Under the new deal, Freston, WPP and the Raine Group will have seats on Vice’s board. Freston also will assume an advisory role with a focus on international expansion and content creation.
Vice, which launched as a Montreal magazine in 1994, now also includes a growing roster of digital channels as well as properties including Vice Music, Vice Films and Vice Books.
