Stan Lee has been tapped to receive Visual Effects Society’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
Award honors industry members whose body of work has made a lasting impact on the vfx industry. The long list of Marvel comicbook characters that bear Lee’s stamp as creator or co-creator include Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk, X-Men, Iron Man, the Avengers and Dr. Strange. Lee became publisher of Marvel Comics in 1972 and currently holds the position of chairman emeritus of Marvel Enterprises.
“Stan Lee’s imagination has created a completely original and profitable niche in the entertainment world and has allowed visual effects to flex its muscle in service to it,” said VES chair Jeffrey Okun.
“Visual effects,” Lee remarked, “have played a pivotal role in the ongoing success of Marvel’s characters and allowed fans to experience their stories in an entirely new way.”
Kudo will be presented Feb. 7 at the 10th annual VES Awards at the Beverly Hilton.
