Venice rounds out De Laurentiis jury

Fred Roos, Serra Yilmaz report for duty

Producer Fred Roos, longtime collaborator of Francis Ford Coppola and Sofia Coppola, has been recruited for jury duty by the Venice Film Festival for its Luigi De Laurentiis Award, handed out to a debut feature.

The other jurors for the Lido’s Lion of the Future nod, which carries a $100,000 prize to be split equally by director and producer, are Russian helmer Aleksei Fedorchenko, who was in last year’s Lido competish with “Silent Souls”; Gallic film critic Charles Tesson, recently appointed head of the Cannes Film Festival’s Critics’ Week; and Italy-based Turkish stage and screen actress Serra Yilmaz.

As previously announced, Italo helmer Carlo Mazzacurati will be prexy of the jury, which will pick the winner from first features in all sections of the fest, including the independently-run Venice Days and Critics’ Week.

The 68th fest will run Aug. 31 to Sept. 10.
