Pic set to bow Sept. 2

Giving itself a reprieve, the Weinstein Co. has moved “Apollo 18” from Aug. 26 — the same date of TWC’s “Our Idiot Brother” — to bow a week later on Sept. 2.

TWC first re-dated sci-fi thriller “Apollo 18,” about a real-life canceled NASA mission, after New Line moved up “Final Destination 5” from Aug. 26 to Aug. 12. But the move wound up doubling the distrib’s workload since “Our Idiot Brother” was already skedded to launch that date.

Now, TWC has decided to bite the bullet and join Labor Day weekend, during which “Apollo 18” will compete against similarly-targeted pics, Relativity Media’s “Shark Night 3D” and Wednesday opener “The Debt,” from Focus Features.

In other dating news, 20th Century Fox has bumped back “Life of Pi” from its Dec. 14, 2012 release date to Dec. 21.

That’s in response to Warner Bros. having dated New Line’s first “Hobbit” installment, “An Unexpected Journey,” on that same date. The second pic, “There and Back Again,” will bow a year later on Dec. 13.
