TWC acquires Madonna’s ‘W.E.’

Romantic drama set for 2011 release

The Weinstein Co. has acquired Madonna’s romantic drama “W.E.”

Film marks the singer’s second directorial effort. Her first, a short film titled “Filth and Wisdom,” preemed at Berlin in 2008.

“W.E.,” starring Abbie Cornish, James D’Arcy and Andrea Riseborough, is slated for a 2011 release.

Madonna co-wrote and produced the pic with Alek Keshishian and Kris Thykier, respectively. Scott Franklin exec produced.

“W.E.” juxtaposes a contemporary love story with that of King Edward VIII and American divorcee Wallis Simpson over six decades.

TWC chief operating officer David Glasser and senior VP business affairs and acquisitions Michal Steinberg negotiated the deal on behalf of the company.

CAA brokered the deal with TWC on behalf of the filmmakers.
