Tribeca picks up ‘Last Rites of Joe May’

Dennis Farina stars in Steppenwolf Films project

The founders of Steppenwolf Theater are expanding their reach: Tribeca Film has acquired helmer scribe Joe Maggio’s “The Last Rites of Joe May,” a drama starring Dennis Farina, produced by Stephanie Striegel and Bill Straus in association with Steppenwolf Films.

“Rites” follows sixtysomething Chicagoan Joe May (Farina) who sells Rolex knockoffs and bootleg DVDs. He returns home from a lengthy hospital stay to find that his landlord, assuming the worst, has rented his place out to a single mom (Jamie Anne Allman of AMC’s “The Killing”) with a young daughter. Gary Cole also stars.

The pic is skedded for an October release both theatrically and on VOD, with rollout across DVD, pay TV and digital planned.
