Northern Italian region offers $7 million to filmmakers

ROME — A new film fund from Italy’s autonomous Trentino Alto-Adige region is up and running with Euros 5 million ($7 million) at its disposal, and a Euros 1.5 million ($2 million) limit for each project.

First announced last year in Cannes, the fund launched by the Business Locations South Tyrol (BLS) Film Commission, is now accepting applications March 3-18. The main requirement is that productions match at least 100% of the incentives as spend in the Northern Italian region.

The new fund, which is based on a system similar to German and Austrian regional incentives, can be tapped into on top of Italy’s 25% tax credit for foreign productions.
