Par pic takes in $32.9 mil from 4,011 locations
“Transformers: Dark of the Moon” kept the fireworks flying yesterday, jumping to $32.9 million from 4,011 locations.The Paramount actioner opened Wednesday to a record-setting $37.3 million. It has pulled in $97 million domestically so far, somewhat shy of its predecessor “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” which earned $127.85 million in as many days. Still, pic is poised to cume north of $150 million Stateside through this holiday Monday, with even more boffo business globally as int’l markets haven’t seen 3D turnout dip like it has in America. “Dark of the Moon” has made about 60% of its domestic gross in 3D, roughly 15% up from the new standard. Disney’s “Cars 2″ came in second Friday with $7.87 million from 4,115 engagements, followed by fellow soph sessioner Sony’s “Bad Teacher,” which made $4.5 million from 3,049 locations. So far, pics have cumed $98.8 million and $49.9 million, respectively. This frame’s other wide openers rounded out Friday’s top earners. Universal’s “Larry Crowne” followed right on “Bad Teacher’s” heels with $4.043 million from 2,973 engagements, and 20th Century Fox’s “Monte Carlo” grossed $3.125 from 2,473. The pair could benefit as counterprogramming for families and older auds out to theaters for the holiday as the long weekend progresses.
