Fest announces participants of Rising Stars program
TORONTO — The Toronto Film Festival announced the four jury-selected participants of its inaugural Rising Stars program as well as details of its Producers and Talent Labs and Pitch This! event on Thursday.
Canuck thesps Sarah Allen, Keon Mohajeri, Katie Boland (currently filming Paul Thomas Anderson’s “The Master”) and Sarah Gadon (Toronto fest pics “A Dangerous Method” and “The Moth Diaries”) will receive networking ops in Rising Stars. “With resumes that include theater, dance, television, short and feature films, these promising actors are poised to have their careers break out internationally,” said festival co-director Cameron Bailey.
The Producers Lab (Sept. 7-10) — created by European Film Promotion, in collaboration with the Ontario Media Development Corporation and the fest with financial support from the EU’s MEDIA International Program — will facilitate international co-production opportunities for 12 Euro and 12 Canuck producers.
Distribution vet Bingham Ray and helmer Jason Reitman are among mentors of 24 filmmakers in the Talent Lab (Sept. 7-10), while six Canuck teams will pitch docu and drama features in front of 200 industry pros on Sept. 13, with the winner receiving C$10,000 (U.S. $10,129) from Telefilm Canada toward development.
The fest runs Sept 8-18.
