‘The Wise Kids,’ ‘Weekend’ top Outfest awards

L.A. Gay and Lesbian fest wraps Sunday

Outfest, the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, announced awards for the 29th edition that wrapped Sunday.

The grand jury award for U.S. dramatic feature, as well as the screenwriting nod, went to “The Wise Kids,” directed by Stephen Cone. Grand jury award for docu feature went to Eric Brach’s “Habana Muda,” while international dramatic feature kudo was awarded to Andrew Haigh’s “Weekend.”

Audience awards went to “We Were Here,” directed by David Weissman and Bill Weber, for docu feature; to “3,” directed by Tom Tykwer for dramatic feature; and to “Circumstance,” directed by Maryam Keshavarz, for first U.S. dramatic feature.

Madeleine Olnek, writer/director of “Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same,” was awarded the special programming award for emerging talent.

The programming award for freedom went to Melissa Johnson’s “No Look Pass.” Marie Losier’s “The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye,” which won a docu Teddy in Berlin, took the special programming award for artistic achievement.
