The kids will be all right

A Magical Night of Hope raises awareness

It was all about the kids on Thursday at the Skirball Cultural Center, where Covenant House California celebrated A Magical Night of Hope. The crowd focused on two things: homeless kids and Jessica Alba’s massive baby bump.

Happily, Alba is still a few weeks away from delivery, so had plenty of time to honor James Cameron and Suzy Amis Cameron.

“Thank you, Suzy, for proving that mommies can also kick butt and take care of business,” Alba cheered.

Cameron revealed the real reason he and his wife took the time to be honored. “I was not aware of Covenant House until I was contacted by Paul Hanneman from Fox. When he calls, I answer! I think half of Fox is here tonight, all because Covenant House is so powerful and so affecting.”

Universal Studios Hollywood was also on hand, with prexy Larry Kurzweil being honored.

On Sunday, the focus was also on kids, as the lawn outside the Wadsworth Theater took on an African ambience. Cardboard rhinos and tigers populated the place for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation’s 2nd annual A Time for Heroes Celebrity carnival, hosted by Disney. The event was star-studded, but most noticeable were the tweens swarming around Ashlee Simpson and Chad Michael Murray.
