Austrian energy drink company amps up production
Exclusive– Austrian energy drink company Red Bull, which has already produced a few pics, is now amping up its theatrical movie production.Its first slate at Terra Mater Factual Studios includes Gerardo Olivares’ $15 million-plus “Patagonia,” Gerhard Salmina’s “The Cry of the Eagle” and “Mind Over Matter,” an ambitious docu-feature on the 2012 London Paralympics games. All three features were unveiled at Cannes on Thursday by Sophokles Tasioulis, a producer on BBC Worldwide’s “Deep Blue” and “Earth” through his Sophisticated Films banner. Tasioulis now serves as head of cinema and international theatrical sales at Terra Mater Factual Studios, a Red Bull Media House subsid. Set up this January, Terra Mater takes international sales rights to its productions, Tasioulis said. A fiction feature, “Patagonia” turns on an American mother with an autistic child who seeks out in Patagonia a man who cures autistic people, working with orca whales. Co-produced by Spain’s Wanda Vision, “Patagonia” is being eyed by at least two Hollywood name thesps for roles. Olivares is writing “Patagonia” from an original screenplay by director Lucia Puenzo. It begins shooting next March. Terra Mater’s first pickup, which it is selling at Cannes, is Olivares’ latest film, “Among Wolves.” Directed by Austrian Gerhard Salmina, the Alps-set “Cry” turns on two brother golden eagles, one raised in captivity.
