Cierra Ramirez is in talks to play the lead in coming-of-age drama ‘”Ansiedad” (“Anxiety”) opposite Eva Mendes for Lionsgate and Televisa’s newly formed joint venture Pantelion Films, which will finance and distribute.
Producers are Ben Odell and John Fiedler with exec producers including Jim McNamara, Greg Coote Robert Lundberg, Barry Rosen and Fernando Perez Gavilan. Lionsgate, Televisa and Triangle are financing.
Ramirez is set to play Mendes’ daughter, portraying a teen dissatisfied with her life who tries to enter adulthood — and succeeds only in creating one crisis after another. Patricia Riggen will direct.
Lionsgate and Televisa unveiled Pantelion in September with plans to release eight to 10 pics per year starting with “From Prada to Nada,” which has grossed $2.6 million in its first three weeks in limited release. Pantelion’s aiming to tap the audience of 26 million U.S. Hispanics who rep more than a quarter of all frequent moviegoers in the U.S.
Ramirez’s credits include “Desperate Housewives” and “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.”
