Durban programmer replaces Claire Stewart

SYDNEY — The Sydney Film Festival has tapped Nashen Moodley, the programming topper of the Durban Film Festival, for its top job.

Moodley has also acted as a consultant to the Rotterdam film fest and the Berlinale.

He replaces Claire Stewart, who was recently appointed head of exhibition at the British Film Institute.

“Nashen Moodley joins Sydney Film Festival at a time of great strength and growth,” SFF chairman Chris Freeland said. “His strong international film festival connections and curatorial flare ensure that Sydney will continue to be presented the best films and filmmakers from around the world; whilst highlighting the great films and talent of the Australian film industry.”

The SFF takes place from June 6-17, Moodley will take up his new role in January.
