SXSW announces midnight pics

Shorts, SXFantastic sections also unveiled

The South by Southwest Film Festival has announced five features each in the Midnighters and SXFantastic sections along with the 150 titles in the short films lineup.

SXSW made the announcement Thursday. The festival runs March 11-19 in in Austin with “Source Code” as the opening night title.

“Our midnight programs are the bloody, beating heart of SXSW,” said SXSW Film Conference &

Festival Producer Janet Pierson. “Since the beginning, midnight films have been an essential

ingredient to what makes SXSW so exciting and fun, and this year’s selections are no exception.”

The Midnighters lineup includes “Attack The Block,” directed and written by Joe Cornish in a story of a teen gang against an invasion of alien monsters; “The Divide, directed by Xavier Gens and written by Karl Mueller & Eron Sheean; “Hobo With a Shotgun,” directed by Jason Eisner and starring Rutger Hauer; haunted house tale “Insidious,” directed by James Wan; Argentinian horror pic “Phase 7” from Nicolas Goldbart.

Films screening in SXFantastic are “Cold Sweat,” directed by Adrián Garcia Bogliano; Polish entry “George the Hedgehog,” directed by Wojciech Wawszczyk; “Kill List,” directed by Ben Wheatley; “Little Deaths,” directed and written by Sean Hogan, Andrew Parkinson & Simon Rumley; and “The FP,” directed and written by Jason Trost & Brandon Trost.
