Distributor acquires latest film from Palme d'Or winners
In its fourth deal at Cannes, Sundance Selects has acquired U.S. rights to Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne’s “The Kid With a Bike” from Wild Bunch.
Pic world preemed Saturday in competition at the fest. It’s the story of an 11-year-old who clings to a local hairdresser after his father abandons him and begins on a path of self-destruction.
The Dardennes have won two Palme d’Or awards at Cannes, for “Rosetta” and “The Child.”
During Cannes, Sundance Selects has also acquired North American rights to Bertrand Bonello’s “House of Tolerance” and U.S. rights to Mia Hansen Love’s “Goodbye First Love” and Julia Leigh’s “Sleeping Beauty.”
Deal for “Kid with a Bike” was negotiated by Arianna Bocco, senior VP of acquisitions and productions, and Betsy Rodgers, senior VP of business and legal affairs for Sundance Selects with Wild Bunch on behalf of the filmmakers.
Rainbow Media’s Sundance Selects is a sister division to IFC Films and IFC Midnight.
