Summit acquires U.S. rights to ‘Cross’

Summit Entertainment has acquired U.S. rights to “I, Alex Cross,” with Tyler Perry starring and Rob Cohen directing.

A Summit spokesman confirmed Thursday night that the minimajor had closed the deal for QED International’s reboot of James Patterson’s iconic character. Project’s been developed as origin tale of the detective/psychologist made famous by Morgan Freeman in “Kiss the Girls” and “Along Came a Spider.”

Patterson and Kerry Williamson penned the first draft of the script with Marc Moss revising. Pic will be produced by QED’s Bill Block and Paul Hanson along with Leopoldo Gout. Patterson and Steve Bowen will exec produce.

Lensing’s expected to start later this year with no release date set yet.
