It nabs domestic rights to Foster starrer

EXCLUSIVE: Strand Releasing has snapped up domestic rights to Ben Foster starrer “Here,” which preemed at Sundance earlier this year.

Helmer Braden King’s pic, which is being shopped by Munich-based K5 Intl. in Cannes, chronicles a brief but intense romantic relationship between an American satellite-mapping engineer and an expatriate Armenian photographer who impulsively decide to travel together into unchartered territory.

“Here” is the first U.S. pic to be produced in Armenia; it also snapped up the CICAE award for art cinema at the Berlin fest in February.

Kevin Iwashina and Christine D’Souza of Preferred Content, who are co-reps with K5 Intl. on the pic in North America, negotiated the deal with Strand’s Marcus Hu and Jon Gerrans. K5 has a number of hot titles it’s shopping in Cannes, including Paul Walker starrer “Vehicle 19,” Dean Zanuck titles “Voice From the Stone” and “Liberty Lane” and Helena Bonham Carter starrer “Toast.”
