Paramount in talks with 'Dragon Tattoo' scribe

Paramount’s in talks with Steve Zaillian to pen a rewrite of its untitled Jack Ryan project, based on the Tom Clancy novels.

Chris Pine is positioned to topline with Jack Bender of “Lost” directing and Lorenzo di Bonaventura producing.

Alec Baldwin originated the character in 1990′s “The Hunt for Red October,” Harrison Ford played him in 1992′s “Patriot Games” and 1994′s “Clear and Present Danger,” and Ben Affleck played Ryan in 2002′s “The Sum of All Fears.”

Zaillian was one of the writers on “Clear and Present Danger,” in which Jack Ryan is drawn into an illegal war fought by the US government against a Colombian drug cartel.

Zaillian’s writing and exec producing Sony’s English-language remake of Swedish thriller “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.”

He’s repped by WME.
