Winners, honorees, nominees mix it up at gala
After the Screen Actors Guild Awards, most celebs filed into the big brown-and-purple tent on the back lot of the Shrine Auditorium, scene of the People magazine/Entertainment Industry Foundation gala.
Betty White and Ernest Borgnine, the night’s elder statesmen honorees, stopped in and settled into one of the designated VIP couch pits, while nearby the trophy-winning “Modern Family” kids – Ariel Winter, Rico Rodriguez and Nolan Gould – danced up a storm to the music of Impulse.
Gangs of happy winners gathered in clumps. Christian Bale and Melissa Leo celebrated, along with Amy Adams and the seven actresses that play the tough-as-nails daughters in that film, way back in the section that spontaneously combusted as the smoking area. Across the room, Julianna Margulies enjoyed her win with “The Good Wife” costars Archie Panjabi and Josh Charles, and Claire Danes snuggled happily with hubby Hugh Dancy.
The talk of the night was another snuggly couple, as all eyes were on Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis, whose public displays of affection caused quite the stir. “Where’s Jessica Biel?” someone whispered pointedly.
Committed Hollywood couples were all around, too, like Warren Beatty and Annette Bening, Angie Harmon and Jason Seahorn, and Jane Lynch and Lara Embry, who filled a section with the disappointed and mostly single “Glee” club. As Lynch said with a smile as she and Embry waited patiently for their limo in the long pick-up line, guarding their massive gift bags, “Oh well, you can’t win them all!”
Over at WeHo’s Sunset Tower Hotel, “The King’s Speech” crowd gathered at the Weinstein Company SAG after-party.
“For me personally, it couldn’t top. Last night was the night of my life,” helmer Tom Hooper said, referring to his DGA award win. “But it’s still pretty damn good.”
Jesse Tyler Ferguson said the “Modern Family” cast was thrilled but felt a little embarrassed to be the only winners carrying around the Actor trophy.
“I brought it in as my ticket, so now we’re like the assholes who brought it into the party,” he quipped.
