Pic centers on survivors of war against humanity

Splendid has bought the German speaking Europe and Benelux rights to the apocalyptic action/thriller “The Day.”

Deal was announced Monday at the Toronto Film Festival, where the film is being screened.

“The Day” is directed by Doug Aarniokoski, written by Luke Passmore and produced by Guy A. Danella (“The Fourth Kind”). Story centers on an open war against humanity, with five survivors lost and on the run.

Pic stars Shawn Ashmore, Ashley Bell, Michael Eklund, Cory Hardrict, Dominic Monaghan, and Shannyn Sossamon. It’s executive produced by Aarniokoski, Michael Finley, Tim James, Antonina Armato and Ross M. Dinerstein.

Content is representing international rights and Kevin Iwashina of Preferred Content is handling North American rights.

Deal was negotiated by Harry White, Head of Sales at Content, and Carl Rickmers at Splendid.
