“Wayne’s World” director Penelope Spheeris is teaming with actor-scribe Matthew Felker to launch Midwest Movies, which has taken U.S. and Canadian rights to Spheeris’ comedy “Balls to the Wall.”
Midwest has partnered with Rocky Mountain Pictures on a deal with the Marcus Theater chain to open “Balls to the Wall” in limited release Oct. 21 on select Midwest screems. If the release strategy works, producers will expand the pic.
“Balls” is about a young man who’s forced by his future father-in-law to moonlight as an exotic dancer in order to pay for the wedding.
Joe Hursley stars alongside Christopher McDonald, Mimi Rogers, Jenna Dewan, Colleen Camp, Antonio Sabato Jr., Dustin Ybarra and Felker.
EG Prods. and Fortress Features produced the Jason Nutt-scripted pic, for which Voltage Pictures is handling international sales.
Felker has already written Midwest’s next project, the comedy “Who Is Brad Lenz?,” which Spheeris is attached to direct. Helmer recently teamed with Jennifer Aniston, Demi Moore, Alicia Keys and Patty Jenkins on “Five,” a series of short films about women and breast cancer that shows how the disease affects women’s lives.
Gersh reps Spheeris, while PCM Intl. reps Felker.
