Sony moves ‘Elysium’ release date

Blomkamp's sci-fi epic set for March 1, 2013

Sony’s moving the release of Neill Blomkamp’s sci-fi epic “Elysium” forward a week to March 1, 2013.

The shift avoids a direct conflict with “Oz: The Great and Powerful.”

Disney announced Wednesday that it had set “Oz” for a March 8, 2013, release.

No other pics have been set for the March dates.

MRC’s “Elysium” stars Jodie Foster, Matt Damon, Brazilian thesp Wagner Moura and Blomkamp’s “District 9” hero Sharlto Copley.

Plot details remain scarce, though the futuristic story is said to be in the same social-allegory vein as “District 9,” but on a much bigger scale.

Bill Block and Simon Kinberg are producing the pic, which is scheduled to start production in July.
