Superhero sequel to bow May 2, 2014
Nearly a year before Columbia Pictures reboots its most lucrative superhero franchise with “The Amazing Spider-Man,” the studio has set a date for its sequel, which will bow on May 2, 2014.
Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone star in Marc Webb’s “Amazing Spider-Man” and the duo are expected to reprise their roles of Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy.
James Vanderbilt has already been hired to write the sequel.
With Sony dating a sequel that hasn’t even been greenlit yet, it indicates that the studio has confidence in “Amazing Spider-Man,” which is skedded for release July 3, 2012.
Rhys Ifans co-stars as Dr. Curt Connors, aka The Lizard, while Martin Sheen and Sally Field play the protag’s Uncle Ben and Aunt May.
Sam Raimi’s original webslinger trilogy grossed nearly $3.5 billion worldwide, in addition to billions more in related merchandise and licensing deals.
