Sony Pictures Classics is set to release the latest from Whit Stillman, “Violet Wister’s Damsels in Distress,” worldwide.
Pic stars Greta Gerwig, Adam Brody and Analeigh Tipton, among others, in a story about three young women at an East Coast university, the transfer student that joins their group and the young men they become entangled with.
Writer-helmer Stillman also produces the pic alongside Martin Shafer and Liz Glotzer. SPC has previously worked with Castle Rock Entertainment’s Shafer on pics including “Lonestar” and “Waiting for Guffman,” among others.
Shot in New York state, privately financed film “Damsels” is the first from Stillman since 1998 outing “The Last Days of Disco.”
Exact release date for “Damsels in Distress” has not yet been announced. Film joins an SPC slate that also includes “The Guard,” “Higher Ground” and “POM Wonderful presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold.”
